Tom Rogic, an Australian midfielder, announced his unexpected retirement on Tuesday morning. He was only 30 years old.

Rogic, who had 53 senior Socceroos appearances and 10 goals, is most remembered for his lengthy stay at Scottish club Celtic, where he rose to fame.

In the course of his nine-year tenure at Celtic Park, Rogic played 273 times, registered 46 goals and 49 assists, and won numerous trophies with the Hoops.

With four trebles won while living up north, Rogic won the Scottish Premiership six times, the Scottish Cup five times, and the Scottish League Cup once.

Rogic, a free agent since the end of June after playing for West Brom last year, has decided to retire from the sport.

Tom Rogic retired, why?

Rogic has disclosed that he is deciding to hang up his boots at the age of 30 for personal and family reasons in a lengthy statement on the Instagram app.

The midfielder spoke about his battles with his wife’s infertility that lasted for the better part of seven years before they finally welcomed a daughter into the world two years ago.

The couple is now expecting twins next year, which is better news than the struggles that have persisted since then. Rogic now wants to concentrate on taking care of his family rather than splitting his time between that and sport.

He has already returned to Australia and plans to establish roots there after deciding to end his playing career, but in his Instagram post, he did not specifically mention West Brom, even though he tagged their official account.

How effective was Tom Rogic for West Brom?
A few months after leaving Celtic, he signed with the Baggies in September 2022, though Steve Bruce’s management was replaced by Carlos Corberan only a few weeks later.

When it came to selecting his starting lineup, the Spaniard never really favored Rogic, frequently using him off the substitutes’ bench and even leaving him out of several games.

Rogic only really fit into a system that used a “number 10,” but Corberan explained that this wasn’t always in his gameplan, which is why he only made 23 appearances for Albion, only seven of which were starts.

What has John Swift stated regarding the retirement of Tom Rogic?

Rogic’s teammate for almost the entire 2022–23 campaign, Baggies midfielder John Swift, has given the Australian a message in the wake of his decision to hang up his boots at a relatively young age.

Swift commented on Rogic’s Instagram post to let everyone know he was leaving the game, “All the best to you and your family roggy,” and Rogic confirmed the comment.
