In the third round of the Carabao Cup, Man United faced Crystal Palace.

Dean Henderson, a former goalie for Manchester United, was taken off the field less than 20 minutes into Tuesday night’s Carabao Cup match, and his former Old Trafford teammates showed him some support.

During United’s home Carabao Cup match against Crystal Palace, the 26-year-old sustained an injury and needed medical attention on the pitch before being replaced by Sam Johnstone. Henderson moved from United to Selhurst Park last month for an estimated £20 million.

Henderson, who missed the second part of the 2022–23 season owing to an injury sustained during his loan stint at Nottingham Forest, was visibly saddened by his most recent injury setback.

Anthony Martial, a former United player, gave the goalkeeper a hug as he exited the field, and Facundo Pellistri gave him a high five. Henderson made his debut Palace appearance following his transfer from Old Trafford.

Henderson said of his time at United after leaving: “This club is everything to me. I left home at the age of 14 in order to pursue my ambition of playing for Manchester United, and happily I was successful in doing so. Therefore, that is something I will always treasure and bring with me wherever I go.

Since I was a young lad, I have been a supporter. I’ve risen through the ranks and have a deep passion for the club. There have undoubtedly been highs and lows, but I have wonderful memories from my time here, and I’m relieved to be departing on friendly terms.

“I believe reflecting on it, obviously donning the shirt for the first time, away at Luton in the cup. Actually, I believe that was my stage debut, and it was a truly memorable experience. It didn’t really take in that I’d truly accomplished it until maybe a week later. It was everything I ever dreamed as a little guy, so accomplishing that makes me very happy.

After Henderson was substituted, United quickly took the lead. Alejandro Garnacho scored the game’s first goal, and Casemiro added a second just before the half-hour mark.
