‘Big disconnect’: Andy Walker makes controversial claim about some Celtic supporters.
Cards on the table, I am aware that some Celtic fans were quite dissatisfied with the club’s decision to rehire Brendan Rodgers.
Nobody is that gullible as to even attempt to refute it. But now that Rodgers has been in charge for over four months, can we assume that any animosity towards the Celtic manager is over?
Andy Walker, a former Celtic striker, disagrees. The analyst still thinks that the Hoops manager needs to do a lot of work to win over a particular segment of the Celtic fan base. He feels that a certain portion of people “just don’t get him.”
“I still think there’s a big disconnect between some of the supporters and Brendan,” Walker remarked on [The Go Radio Football Show]. Simply put, they don’t like him.
“And you know, every fan and every person is totally free to applaud, jeer, or ignore someone as they see fit.
“I believe he was the ideal choice. I believe he has left the top drawer.
But you still get the impression that some Celtic fans are just not into him because of the manner in which he left the first time.
Why Andy Walker’s statements about Celtic are inaccurate
I’m not going to criticize Walker’s remarks, I promise. Not at all. He has the right to his view because it is his. After only a few weeks of having Rodgers as the manager, if he had stated that, I would not have objected.
And now? Simply said, I believe that the tide has turned. I’ll explain why I have the impression that all of the Celtic fans are solidly behind Rodgers.
The Celtic manager and the fans’ relationship was significantly improved after the victory at Ibrox. After losing to St Johnstone and being eliminated by Kilmarnock from the League Cup, some people were still upset.
Going into the first Glasgow Derby, the team wasn’t performing well, our defense was disorganized, and Reo Hatate was absent. Supporters of Celtic feared the worst.
With a 1-0 victory, Rodgers moved Celtic four points ahead of their major challenger. A big checkmark for the manager.
Then followed the 3-0 victory over Dundee. Rodgers’ team was dominant in the second half and completely destroyed the Dens Park team with some outstanding play.
Celtic were not to be taken lightly in the Champions League, as Feyenoord demonstrated. Rodgers’ team was in contention before the Hoops were down to 10 men, and it might be claimed that they might have gained something from the game had the referee been more effective.
Both the Celtic team and the crowd were inspired by Livingston. Once more reduced to ten men for more than an hour, Rodgers worked his magic as Celtic dominated the Almondvale team.
There is no denying Rodgers’ playing style, and the team is in great shape. Not to mention the young Celtic supporter who was saved from the law by the Celtic manager. A classy move that the away crowd certainly liked, as the Sky Sports footage made quite evident.
Should we also discuss the improvements made by Rodgers to Liam Scales, Dazen Maeda, Matt O’Riley, and Kyogo Furuhashi?
I can understand Walker’s assumption that some Celtic supporters will still reject Rodgers, but that is not the impression I get from reading forums and watching the different Celtic fan media outlets.
