The defender has spent the past eight seasons with the Reds after joining on a free transfer from Schalke in the summer of 2016. He was one of Jurgen Klopp’s first acquisitions. Matip has since played 190 games for Liverpool, scoring 11 goals and taking home every Merseyside trophy imaginable.

Many people anticipate the center-back to leave next summer because the 32-year-old’s contract expires at the end of the current campaign and because his duties have been diminished this year.

Matip, a favorite of Liverpool supporters, has hinted that he would continue at Anfield past this season, so it’s feasible that he decides to retire with the team.

Insisting that “you just don’t walk away” from Anfield, Matip has made it known that he would like to extend his contract in order to continue playing for Liverpool for the rest of his career.

Obviously, Schalke was my youth team; it was an enormous honor to play there as a Schalke supporter. I had the chance to do that for a while, and in Liverpool, under these top-notch circumstances, you don’t just walk away, Matip remarked, according to the Liverpool Echo.

Additionally, I’m also tremendously at ease here in my personal life. It’s preferable, in my opinion, to not switch clubs frequently. But each person must make their own decision. Whatever the situation, I value consistency.

Now that I’m older, I don’t think as much.
