Newcastle United’s “Grinding” pair give a training ground update following an injury blow and setback.
As they heal from their separate ailments, Sven Botman and Joe Willock are spending the international break at Newcastle United’s practice facility.
While Willock hasn’t played for Newcastle since suffering a hamstring injury in the 4-1 victory over Brighton & Hove Albion in May, Botman suffered an ankle injury in the 2-1 loss to Liverpool last month.
Botman is expected to be available for the next Premier League game against Brentford at St. James’ Park on September 16 (5:30 p.m. kickoff), but Willock may need to spend more time on the sidelines due to an injury setback.
Howe responded, “This is an unknown, to be honest,” when asked if Botman will be able to play against Brentford. There was a chance he may be available for this Brighton game, but on Friday he didn’t feel well, so he was out.
“We will watch to see how quickly he improves.”
Howe gave a concerning injury report regarding Willock following the 3-1 loss at Brighton the previous time out.
“Joe’s had a bit of a setback with an Achilles injury,” the United manager admitted. Since it’s unrelated to his hamstring issue, I predict he won’t be available for about six weeks.
Botman posted a photo of Newcastle’s practice facility on Instagram during the international break with the words “back soon” in it.
The Dutch defender was working out the next day when Willock posted a video of him with the caption, “Grindingggg @SvenBotman.”
Willock received a reply from Botman that read, “We get there boy!”
